Bury Your Bitter Past in the Lost Cemetery of Negativism, Baguio

The Lost Cemetery of Negativism inside Camp John Hay, Baguio City
When you visit Baguio City, one of the usual spots is Camp John Hay. Surprisingly, many of us do not know that there is one becoming popular tourist attraction here which is kinda weird and unique at the same time since it is a cemetery, or a memorial park. But dead people are absent here, only the bitter past of everyone who dared to bury it in the Lost Cemetery of Negativism.

Strolling the Road to Ayala Technohub in Camp John Hay, Baguio

At the Ayala Technohub in Camp John Hay, Baguio City

Me and my friend enjoyed the cool morning in Baguio by just sipping some coffee, eating noodles and watching TV. It was a lazy morning after all, since we had an unplanned night tour that made us all awake until midnight of the previous day. Here I was in Loakan. We decided to do our tour in the afternoon and the best bet is to go to Camp John Hay. We met a friend in another house and did some fun chats and those undying “how’s life now” thing.

Baler Tourist Spots, Maps and Guide

Baler tourist attraction map and guide
Baler, Aurora is an emerging tourist town comparable, but less crowded, to Sagada and Baguio City. Tourist destinations in downtown Baler are walkable since some of them are very near each other like Museo de Baler, Rolling Stores, Quezon Ancestral House and Baler Catholic Church. However, some other Baler tourist attractions in the greater Baler area, are farther, like the Millenium Tree and Ditumabo Falls. The farthest tourist spot in Baler area is the Ampere Beach which is already located in the town of Dipaculao, Aurora.

Lost in the Woods: Wild Sagada Berries Over Kiltepan Mountain

Wild Sagada berries on Kiltepan Mountain
Kiltepan Rice Terraces have had enough though we were not able to witness the famous sunrise over the sea of clouds. The Kiltepan Peak is along the way where the orange trees were also found, and not along the road going to Bokong or Bomod-ok Falls. We were supposed to have a quick breakfast inside Rock Inn and see some orange fruit but we did not expect this to happen—we were lost in the woods.

A Story of the Lost Sagada Sunrise, Kiltepan Peak and the Rice Terraces

Though the sunrise and seas of clouds did not show up when I visited Kiltepan Peak, the rice terraces were already enough to cover it.
Not long enough I realized it was already 10 in the evening and I need to wake up early tomorrow for the famed Kiltepan sunrise where I should be able to see the rising sun over the horizon of clouds. After a beer night inside Sagada Pine Café, we ended our hectic Sagada adventure for another one a morning after.

Kapay-aw Rice Terraces in Sagada

Kapay-aw Rice Terraces in Sagada

To go to Sumaguing Cave, one has to take the road that also leads to the entrance trail to Lumiang Cave. To reach the “Big Cave”, you also have to pass by the side of the zipline adventure and the Kapay-aw Rice Terraces. It wasn’t the planting season nor the harvest season when we visited Sagada, so Kapay-aw Rice Terraces were not at their best. Well, but at least we saw it.

Trail Down to Bokong Falls in Sagada

Bokong Falls in Sagada

After our en route quest to the Underground River of Sagada, we finally headed to the smallest of the three falls—Bokong Falls, which is a few minutes from the rock formation along the way. I, Christian and the two backpackers have gone to the woods to finally see the small falls.

En Route Quest to Sagada Version of Underground River

Sagada Underground River
We were supposed to meet the two backpackers in the rock-formation-turned-into-a-car-park which was just in front of Rock Valley Inn and Café. We bought some lemon pie (not persimmon pie) at Persimon Café to resist our hunger for later adventure to Bokong Falls. We thought they will be fast enough to meet us but then we decided to get the thrill out of ourselves and find the route to the Underground River.

An Amazing Up Close to the Hanging Coffins of Sagada

The Hanging Coffins of Sagada is a mirror to one's tradition way before the conquerors arrived.

Long time ago, even before the colonizers arrived in the Philippines, the people of the Cordillera have their own traditions and customs. They have their own hierarchy, attires, family connections, dances, rituals, ceremonies and burial tradition. One of the preserved way of entombing (not actually the same way as burial) is the so-called “hanging” of the caskets of their dead loved ones. And these Hanging Coffins testify that yes, even before the conquerors came, the people were already civilized.

Bolinao Lighthouse, Cave, Falls, Rock and Roll

THE CAPE BOLINAO LIGHTHOUSE. The second tallest lighthouse in the Philippines.
Part 8 of The Pangasinan Escapade

We didn’t spend the whole day at the beach even if we wanted to. We still had more places to visit. After that awesome experience, we went to take some pictures at the Cape Bolinao Lighthouse. Cape Bolinao Lighthouse is currently the second tallest lighthouse in the Philippines after Cape Bojeador in Ilocos. It was built by the Filipino and American engineers in 1905. There is no entrance fee at this lighthouse.
